NxPC.Live vol.57 SpinEcho
New forms of expressionism in concerts realized through scheming with sounds and images
Using the Oasis Parks’ glass dome as a stage, a live performance as NxPC.Lab was held. This time mixing in with current students at IAMAS, external guests, performers and other guests from outside the school presented a variety of live and visual performances using AR and original devices whilst projecting images on a giant screen.

Process
We received a request from Oasis Park to plan and manage an event using the park so it led to a collaboration with us. The purpose of this project was to examine the possibilities and significance of media expression in tourist attractions by developing and implementing IAMAS research in a form that uses Oasis Park. Making use of the fact that this park allows admissions late into the night, a plan to project images was discussed and the operations were done with the cooperation of Oasis Park and Ogaki Kyoritsu bank.
Research taken on
NxPC.Lab (Enhanced Experience Expression Project)
It is a research organization that aims to increase the sense of presence brought about by the interactivity of artists and spectators at clubs and concerts, and to proliferate that onto the internet by realizing media technologies.
By making full use of media technologies such as devices, interfaces, and networks, the research organization conducts research, development, and events to expand the musical experience and take communication in the music space to the next level by utilizing the interactivity and participation required in contemporary media experiences.
In our collaboration, using the Oasis Park glass dome as a venue, a large screen was set up that uses its form and 4 groups of performers held Audio Visual performances. There were many families amongst the park visitors, and for NxPC.Lab it was a valuable opportunity to be seen by groups of people who would typically have no connection to their work. As such they aimed for an event that schemed with both music and images to integrate the experimental expressionism that NxPC.Lab had used in past activities rather than just deliver a simple live performance. They thought that through combining various systems, outdoor concerts, and using expressions that people may have probably already seen broadcast on TV or other forms of media etc., that the audience would appreciate the performances with a constant feeling of novelty.
Further, a first year masters student who is part of the lab was the core of the project who organized the venue and ran the event as planned. They were also able to learn about the series of processes involved in hosting a music event and gain more experience.
