Ima-karada - This exhibition introduces activities at IAMAS, the innovative media school that spans disciplines from the arts to the sciences.
IAMAS (Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences / International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences) was established by Gifu Prefecture in an expression of deep interest for pioneering information arts and its consequently developing culture. IAMAS has become renowned overseas through its biennial international media art exhibition hosted since its inception as well as through critical acclaim of student and faculty works at national and international competitions.
The theme for the exhibition is ima (now) and karada (body). Faculty who are successful in installation, music, representative engineering and other fields will coordinate IAMAS student, graduate and faculty works to paint a picture of the "body" that lives in the areas of art and technology in the "IAMAS now."
In addition to the artwork displayed at the exhibition, we will introduce the IAMAS Artist in Residence Program, documentation of international exhibition activities, and the education and research that form the basis for diverse modes of expression at IAMAS. Taking a cultural perspective on cutting-edge media, IAMAS will embark upon a new era in media art, design and science through this exhibition.
